MASON CITY – NIT reported Thursday that a building at 514 South Federal Avenue has debris falling off it and might not be safe to be near.
“Can the city please cleanup the mess in the parking area next to the Old Pizza Hut Delivery,” an NIT reader posted in the our Whiner’s Den. “Someone is gonna get hurt from falling bricks.”
After we reported the issue to City Hall, Neighborhood Services Manager Pat Otto promptly let NIT know that her team was taking care of the situation saying that the property owner was going to place barricades at the location to protect pedestrians and people who might park next to the building.
The property owner (listed in online records as TIERNEY HOLDINGS LLC) did place the barricades with caution tape later that day.
However, as a photo from Friday afternoon shows, there is a lot of debris on the ground and some of it is on the public sidewalk. This is a potential safety hazard for pedestrians. Furthermore, debris may still be falling off the building.
Pedestrians should continue to take caution when near this structure.
Readers may report any similar issues to NIT for follow up.
