Iowa inmate death may have been caused by asphyxiation

Jerry Lee Proctor, an inmate assigned to the Anamosa State Penitentiary, died Friday, August 24, 2012. Proctor committed suicide by hanging. Apparent cause of death is asphyxiation, pending autopsy. Staff responded quickly and Proctor was taken by ambulance to the Jones Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 5:15 pm.

Proctor was 42 years old and serving a life sentence for Murder-1st degree from Polk County. This sentence began on February 14, 1997.
