DAVENPORT, IA – On August 23, 2012, Richard Westmoreland Mathias, age 45, of Mount Pleasant, Iowa, was sentenced to 60 months imprisonment for conspiring to manufacture at least 100 marijuana plants and for possessing with the intent to distribute marijuana, announced United States Attorney Nicholas A. Klinefeldt. Chief United States District Judge James E. Gritzner also sentenced Mathias to four years supervised release.
Mathias grew marijuana at his residence and at an additional property and sold marijuana out of his home. During a search of Mathias’ residence on May 11, 2011, law enforcement seized approximately 277 marijuana plants which were located in the backyard, along with plant food and watering devices.
The case was investigated by the Mount Pleasant, Iowa, Police Department and the United States Drug Enforcement Administration and was prosecuted by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Iowa.
