DCI Investigating Under Cover Narcotics Operation that Ended in Officer Involved Shooting

Johnson County, IOWA — This evening, Thursday, August 16, 2012 two members of the Johnson County Drug Task Force were involved in a shooting incident in Iowa City, Iowa.

At approximately 7:00 PM, two state agents with the Division of Narcotics Enforcement (DNE) who are assigned to the task force were conducting undercover operations at Trailer 7C of the Breckenridge Trailer Court in Iowa City.  During the course of the operation an altercation ensued and shots were fired.  As a result of the incident one person is confirmed dead.  A second suspect is being treated at an area hospital.  The two DNE agents involved were un-injured.

At this time, names of the suspects and the officers are being withheld pending family notification and further investigation.

The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, and the Johnson County Attorney are actively investigating the officer involved shooting.  Also assisting are the Iowa City Police Department, University Heights Police Department, University of Iowa Police Department, Coralville Police Department, Iowa State Patrol, and Johnson County Ambulance.
