Next phase of road construction on I-380/U.S. 20 in Evansdale begins Aug. 1

NEW HAMPTON, Iowa – July 30, 2012 – The next phase of road construction on the Interstate 380/U.S. 20 project in Evansdale will include changes in traffic patterns and on/off ramp access according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s New Hampton Construction Office.

Starting Wednesday morning, Aug. 1, weather permitting, traffic will change out of a two-lane/two-way pattern in the northbound lanes. Traffic will now move in the outside lanes of both the northbound and newly reconstructed southbound lanes of I-380 while the inside lanes remain closed. This next phase of construction will also allow for the opening of the southbound on/off ramps at River Forest Road and Black Hawk County Road V-49 (Raymond Road). The Iowa DOT would like to remind motorists that with only one lane open in each direction, delays are still likely in the work zone and if possible, drivers should find an alternate route.

The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles and wear seat belts.

The Iowa DOT has developed a website at to provide ongoing information related to the I-380 revitalization project. The site includes project details, corridor facts, a project timeline, emergency detour routes, and photos of the project area and construction activities. Information about the I-380 project is also available on Facebook at
