Thousands of Iowa Seniors Save Millions on Prescription Drugs Thanks to ObamaCare

From ProgressIowa.org –

Average savings for Iowa seniors and people with disabilities this year is $596

DES MOINES, IOWA — As a result of ObamaCare (also known as the Affordable Care Act), more than 50,000 Iowa seniors and people with disabilities have saved a total of $65 million on prescription drugs since the law was enacted.  The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) also released data today showing that so far this calendar year, 6,368 Iowans with Medicare saved a total of $3,799,465.14 on prescription drugs in “donut hole” coverage gap for an average of $596.65 in savings this year.

“ObamaCare means that seniors and people with disabilities are getting the care they need, and saving money in the process,” said Don Rowen, State President of the Iowa Alliance for Retired Americans. “Because of the healthcare law thousands of Iowa seniors are able to stay healthy. These are the real people who are benefitting from the law, and who rely on it each and every day.”

These savings are automatically applied to prescription drugs that people with Medicare purchase, after they hit the Medicare Part D prescription drug coverage gap or “donut hole.”

People with Medicare who hit the donut hole in 2010 received a one-time $250 rebate.  In 2011, people with Medicare began receiving a 50 percent discount on covered brand name drugs and 7 percent coverage of generic drugs in the donut hole.

This year, Medicare coverage for generic drugs in the coverage gap has risen to 14 percent.  Coverage for both brand name and generic drugs in the gap will continue to increase over time until 2020, when the coverage gap will no longer exist.

There are just too damn many “welfare leeches” living comfortably in the U.S.! If you are not satisfied with all the “freebies”…..move to Afghanistan !

Please don’t group health insurance companies with pharm co. There’s a profit margin list easily accessed on internet showing profit margins for diff industries. Even Ezra Klein in Washington Post 2/2011 reports insurance industry with 4.54 percent profit margin and drug companies are at 23% and medical device manufacturers at 12.6%
There are many, many, industries more profitable than health insurance.

Obama care was meant to bail out California. There are millions of Illegals there that need health care. And fast and furious was meant to help with a invasion from Mexico.

Great and why don’t we have a voluntary fund so those that believe in redistribution of wealth can contribute and redistribute their assets? Then they can feel good about themselves and leave those that dislike forced mandatory redistribution alone. Go ahead and give your money to the causes you believe in, that is what freedom is about. Charity use to handle much of this and people donated of their own free will to their charity of choice. Let’s go back to that and you can give as much money as you would like.

Good grief! Please quit your whining! These are seniors and disabled people who happen to need expensive drugs and wouldn’t be able to afford them without help. Do you have enough to eat? Do you live in a comfortable home? Hopefully you have good health. Please be grateful for what you have and remember that anyone can come down with a serious health condition at any time. It could be you next!

Hey Opinion-read what I wrote. My costs have gone way up. Why should I have to pay for other people who didn’t work or won’t work for their money. I don’t have a lot but I would like to keep what I have worked for. No one gave me anything, I went for years because I couldn’t afford health insurance and I don’t think it is fair to take from me so people who didn’t even try can get something for nothing. I pay over $500.00 right now for insurance. Let them pay for their own.

How about we define what really is going on and has been for years.

They can’t afford the drugs because the pharmaceutical and insurance companies are in bed together. And our “leaders”, good one; could care less. It’s all about money. And they will take it to get re-elected and turn a blind eye after the fact.

If a leader of this country would step up and call BS on them, everyone would have affordable health care and the cost of prescription drugs would be affordable.

Anytime the govt raises any type of benifet to welfare or needy, it has to be offset by some kind of raise in taxes or goods/services paid by the taxpayer. The govt can not give anything, all they can do is transfer goods/services, and again, it usually entails costing the taxpayer in money or goods/services i.e. closing post offices or work centers, or using student loan money, raising ins premiums, deductibles, and co-pay to offset obamacare. To use an age old axiom, “There is no such thing as a free lunch”.

My deductible and co-pays have both increased as well as medicare and supplemental insurance premiums. The drug stores have quitely increased the cost of their generic drugs to the point I have cut my doses in half on the expensive drugs. I am disabled and on social security and my costs have increased to the point that the meager increase in social security was more than offset by increased prescription costs. This does not even include the cost of rising food and other costs. Obama care pays the people who never worked or wanted to work at the expense of people who did work.

Millions of hard working people pay billions in higher taxes and healthcare costs so a few can have a free lunch via ObamaCare.

$65,000,000.00 is a lot of money.

Where did that money come from they gave away to the welfare recipients?

Well, my insurance costs went up and my prescription co-pay went up.

The rest of us got a back door tax increase in the form of higher prices for insurance and prescription drugs.

Now I have to go without something else that I need.

President Obama forced me to give money to people that should no be on Obama’s welfare/healthcare.

Totally unfair Government intrusion on us!
