Matt Peterson, Austin Daily Herald, Minn. –
A chihuahua is dead after a pit bull attacked and killed it this weekend at Austin’s dog park.
Officers went to the 1000 block of Ninth Avenue SW where a 19-year-old Austin girl said the pit bull somehow got into the section for small dogs, violently shook her chihuaha and killed it at about 8 a.m. on Sunday.
Though the owner of the pit bull, David Davenport, 42, left the dog park that day, he did report the attack at about 6 a.m. today. The owner allegedly told officers that he left because he thought the chihuahua was only injured, and he saw no blood. Police Chief Brian Krueger said an officer would likely take the dog to the pound and cite the owner for owning a potentially dangerous dog. It is unclear how the pit bull got into the fenced area for small dogs.
I worry about the things that could happen at a dog park. There are too many irresponsible people will ill-behaved dogs.
I feel saddened after reading this. What really bothers me is that we went to this park once. Soooo annoying that folks in the park for the most part werent keeping an eye on their dogs. The bigger dogs were jumping up me, bullying my dogs, jumping onto the picnic table where we were sitting and another dog actually was humping my leg while I sat at the table. All the while these dogs owners were all gabbing under a tree that was across the park COMPLETELY oblivious to what their animals were up to. I finally yelled at these dogs to go away and swatted them on the rear . Well THAT got the owners attention that then yelled at their dogs to “Got the hell over here”. If youre gonna bring your dogs to the park? Be responsible. The park wasnt just built for you.
Bottomline, if your dog doesn’t play well with others, don’t take it to a dog park!
