MASON CITY, IA — Just in time for Mother’s Day gifts and spring planting, The Mason City Friends of the Library annual Geranium Sale will be held at Southbridge Mall Saturday, May 5. Hours are from 10 am until sold out. Buyers who purchase five plants at $5.00 each will receive a sixth one free. Each additional purchase of five also brings another free sixth plant.
Geraniums can also be bought Friday starting at noon until 5 p.m. at the Mason City Library in the Mason City Room.

The hardy geraniums are grown from cuttings by the Stillwater Greenhouse and are offered in several vivid colors — white, pink, red, violet, salmon and two-tone splashes. The sturdy plants bloom well both indoors and out and make delightful long-lasting Mother’s Day gifts and plantings for yard and deck. Plants pre-ordered in March will be available for pickup at the library building’s Mason City Room (west end) from noon through 5:00 pm Friday, May 4. Proceeds from the 2012 Geranium Sale are being matched by Thrivent Financial at a rate of $1 for every $4 earned up to a limit of $500.
Library Director Mary Markwalter said Friday that “these folks do so much for the library. Very fortunate to have their help here.”

The Mason City Friends of the Library is a non-profit organization. It supports the Public Library’s mission and activities financially and by strengthening public awareness and use of the library. Membership dues and donations help fund children’s and adult’s summer programs, mid-day music programs in the Commons area and adjoining patio twice yearly, and other selected activities.
