OKOBOJI, Iowa – The NIACC men’s golf team placed fourth out of seven at the Iowa Lakes Invitational Tournament at Brooks National Golf Course in their final test before the regional tournament.
NIACC’s team score of 303 was only six strokes behind meet winner Iowa Lakes (297). Morningside was second with 299 and DMACC was third with 302.
The Buena Vista JV (311), Mount Marty (319), and Southwestern (400) rounded out the field.
“This is a great way for us to go into the Regional Tournament coming up this weekend in Fort Dodge,” said NIACC coach Chris Frenz. “I feel like our guys are ready to defend our Regional Championship from last year.”
Dalton Olson (Fr., Mason City, IA) shot a 73 and finished tied for fourth individually, while Brent Tarr’s (Fr., Clear Lake, IA) 76 tied for 10th. Brandon Thompson of Morningside and Zach Woldruff of Iowa Lakes split medalist honors with rounds of 70.
Brandon Wood (So., Rudd, IA) and Jacob Urdahl (Fr., Mason City, IA) both shot 77’s to tie for 14th, and Adam Brinkman (So., Clear Lake, IA) rounded out NIACC’s scoring with an 84.
“This was our best round of the season so far as a team and this is when you want to be putting it all together,” Frenz said. “We’ll have a good week of practice the rest of the week and be ready to go on Saturday and Sunday. We’re looking forward to the challenge.”
The Region XI Tournament will be at the Fort Dodge Country Club.
