MN Man Sentenced for Sexual Abuse of and Contact with Minors

United States Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that a McLaughlin man convicted of two counts of sexual abuse of a minor and two counts of abusive sexual contact was sentenced on April 23, 2012 by United States District Judge Charles B. Kornmann. Michael Seibel, age 40, was sentenced to 71 months in custody, five years of supervised release, $1,929 in restitution, and $400 in special assessments that go to the Victim Assistance Fund.

Seibel was indicted by a federal grand jury in April 2011 for several counts of aggravated sexual abuse of a child, sexual abuse of a minor, abusive sexual contact with a minor, and child abuse. He was convicted following a jury trial on August 26, 2011 of four counts of sexual assault charges regarding two Native American victims on the Standing Rock Indian Reservation.

This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Standing Rock Agency. Assistant United States Attorney Mikal Hanson prosecuted the case.

Seibel was immediately turned over to the custody of the United States Marshals Service to begin serving his sentence.
