SAN DIEGO — Cory Killgore, a Marine whose wife is missing under suspicious circumstance, is returning from Afghanistan as attention has shifted to a fellow Camp Pendleton Marine.

Search-and-rescue teams continued their search for 22-year-old Brittany Dawn Killgore in a canyon near Fallbrook, Calif. She has been missing since Friday.

Police questioned Louis Ray Perez, 45, a Marine at Camp Pendleton, who was arrested Sunday on suspicion of possessing a stolen weapon, an AR-15 assault rifle.

Perez was questioned about Killgore’s disappearance and was uncooperative, said San Diego County Sheriff’s Lt. Larry Nesbit. Investigators believe Perez was the last person to see Killgore.

“We believe there is a strong likelihood Brittany is the victim of foul play,” Nesbit said.

Killgore was last seen Friday wearing a dark purple evening gown with purple floral glitter patterns, officials said. She had filed for divorce last week from her husband of two years, Cory Killgore, according to court documents.

Her cellphone was found in the Gaslamp Quarter, San Diego’s shopping and entertainment district.

Perez was set to be arraigned Wednesday and was being held in lieu of $500,000 bail.

Christopher Oglesby, a neighbor of the Killgores, told ABC News that they seemed like a loving couple. “I could say they liked to hang out with one another, but his job made it hard for him to sometimes be able to find the time,” he said.
