Sisters accused of beating, sexually assaulting man make court appearance

Andy Rathbun, Pioneer Press, St. Paul, Minn. –

Two sisters accused of beating a man and sexually assaulting him in October made an initial court appearance Thursday, April 12.

Amanda L. Johnson, 18, and Valerie M. Bartkey, 24, are both charged in St. Croix County Circuit Court with second-degree sexual assault as party to a crime, misdemeanor battery and criminal damage to property. Johnson is also charged with intimidating a victim.

During the their initial appearance, signature bonds of $5,000 were set for both Bartkey and Johnson.

The two lived in Somerset at the time of the alleged crime, but Bartkey has since moved to St. Paul and Johnson has moved to Hudson, Wis., according to court records.

A preliminary hearing in their cases is set for Tuesday, April 17.

While hanging out at a town of Somerset home on Oct. 1, 2011, Johnson and Bartkey punched and kicked the alleged victim and put his shoes in a toilet and sink, according to a complaint.

The man was then tricked into drinking a cup of urine that Bartkey said was lemonade, the complaint states.

The two women also reportedly told the man to strip naked, after which Bartkey twisted his penis with a pair of pliers while Johnson was present, according to the complaint.
