Wisconsin Man Sentenced to 15 Years for Gun Crimes

Madison, Wis. – John W. Vaudreuil, United States Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin, announced that Randy Meherg, 45, of Grand Marsh, Wis., was sentenced today in U.S. District Court in Madison to 15 years in federal prison, without parole. Meherg pleaded guilty to possessing a handgun and ammunition after previously having been convicted of a felony.

In sentencing Meherg, Chief U.S. District Judge William M. Conley concluded that he was an Armed Career Criminal under federal law, because his lengthy criminal history included two prior drug felonies in Illinois, and a violent felony conviction for aggravated stalking in Illinois.

U.S. Attorney Vaudreuil stated that today’s sentencing was the result of an investigation conducted by the Adams County Sheriff’s Department, with assistance from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. The prosecution of Meherg was handled by U.S. Attorney Vaudreuil.
