Lottery fever hits Mason City

by Jody Spear and Kelly Meyer –

MASON CITY – People all over Mason City were out Friday buying their MegaMillions Lottery Tickets for a chance to win a record breaking $640,000,000. Friday at 10:00 pm the numbers will be drawn and if anyone is holding those lucky numbers, their life will change forever.

Cyndi, a clerk at Kum and Go on 5th Street and South Federal said, “You should have been here about an hour ago, the lines of people were down both aisles.” She was busy selling some MegaMillions to a lady who hopes it’s her numbers that they pick.

Jordan, a clerk at Kum and Go on 19th Street and South Federal was busy the whole time, we were in there selling tickets. Jodi and her daughter (pictured), who was shy for the camera were excited about the drawing, “We had a hard time getting my numbers in the machine, don’t know if that’s good or bad,” she said laughing.

There were a group of people in Casey’s on South Monroe that had bought their tickets and wanted to wish everybody “Good Luck!!”, as seen on the video.

The Yahoo news reports, Amercans bet nearly $1.5 billion to win record jackpot that is the longest of long shots: an infinitesimally small chance to win what could end up being the single biggest lottery payout the world has ever seen.

You had to have your tickets bought by 8:59 p.m.
