Mapleton, IOWA – At approx 8:35AM, Thursday, March 8th, 2012, the Monona County Communications Center received a 911 call reporting that a shooting had occurred at 14496 Poplar Ave. in Mapleton. The initial information related was that someone had shot at Darren Michael Hieber, 31, of Mapleton, and another individual in his company.
Officers from the Onawa Police Department and Monona County Sheriff’s office responded to the scene. They discovered Mr. Hieber suffering from a non life threatening gunshot injury. The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation was contacted and agents responded to assist with the investigation.
The investigation has revealed that the shooting was a conspiracy between Darren Hieber and two other individuals. This evening, all 3 subjects have been arrested and charged in connection with the crime.
Darren Hieber has been charged with two (2) counts of Solicitation, a class D Felony; Intimidation with a Dangerous Weapon, a class C Felony; Conspiracy, a class C Felony; and Four (4)counts of Extortion, a class D Felony.
Joseph Roberts, 19, of Omaha, has been charged with Intimidation with a Dangerous Weapon, a class C Felony and Conspiracy, a class C Felony.
Timothy Culley, 19, of Omaha, has been charged with Conspiracy a class C Felony.
The Mapleton Police Department, Onawa Police Department, Mapleton Ambulance, and the Monona County Sheriff’s Office assisted the DCI with the investigation. At this time, this is the only information being released due to the ongoing nature of the investigation.
