Ames police cracked down on drunk drivers during Super Bowl

AMES – The Ames Police Department increased traffic enforcement from February 3rd through February 5th due to the Super Bowl weekend. Digital message boards were placed throughout Ames during the enforcement period. The message boards read, “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over.” This is the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s tag line for bringing awareness to the dangers of Impaired Driving.

During the enforcement period eight people were arrested for Operating While Intoxicated, six drivers were cited for Speeding, five drivers were cited for Operating a Vehicle without Registration, four drivers were cited for Failing to Provide Proof of Insurance, two drivers were cited for Failing to Stop at a Red Light, one driver was cited for Failure to Wear a Seatbelt, one driver was cited for Failing to Stop at a Stop Sign, one driver was cited for Driving Without a License, one driver was cited for Improper use of Lanes, one driver was cited for Improper Rear Lamps, one person was issued a citation for Possession of Alcohol Under the Legal Age citation, and two people were arrested on outstanding warrants. The Ames Police Department conducts traffic enforcement projects using grant money provided by Iowa Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau.
