Watts a candidate for Cerro Gordo County Supervisor

by Matt Marquardt –

MASON CITY – Chris Watts formally declared himself a candidate for District 3 Supervisor today at the Mason City Library.

Watts, entering the race as a Republican, will challenge incumbent Phillip Dougherty for the  seat.  Dougherty will be going for his fourth term and was elected in  November of 2000.

Watts has been a consistent observer of Cerro Gordo County Supervisor meetings for the past several years. “Only missed three in the past four years,” he said.

Watts would move to hold supervisor meetings throughout the county so people outside Mason City could have a better chance to attend.  He says he would implement a public input session at the meetings.

Watts says the supervisors need term limits and that he would only serve 2 terms.  “One supervisor right now has served 24 years, 6 terms.  That’s too long,” Watts said.

Watts, 51, and his wife, Pam, raised four children in Mason City.  He works for Reinhart Food Services.

In his spare time, Watts volunteers with the Georgia Hanford Neighborhood Association, making improvements in parks and trails near his home.

If you noticed in yesterday’s Glob, Phil is having a fund raiser.
Makes all that money off the County and yet has the balls to ask people for more to finance his re-election.
Where does he and his Buddy Jay get off anyway?
No Shame for these two???

Dear Jay Urdahl supporter
Partially correct, all the blame isn’t Jay’s.
It’s Phil Doughtery and Bob Amossons also.
These are Jay’s two puppets.
Oh and Phil running for a FORTH TERM?
Let’s get rid of these Career politicians that take our money!!!!!!!

I am a voter in this county since 1976. I started voting for Jay years ago. I have seen the county do little or nothing to pitch in and help grow the region. I have seen the fairgrounds turn into an eyesore. Our fair is the laughingstock of the state. 24 years is too long, another 4 would be highway robbery. I’m voting for Watts and anyone who runs against Urdahl, enough is enough.

Supporter of Jay–I don’t even know the guy. My particular post was not a personal attack on him so don’t try and make it one. It is public knowledge that those meetings are short and are not held at the most convenient times for people to attend. Facts are facts. Nobody said he did not work hard. The whole point is that the concept of people in office for a very long time in a tightly controlled manner using public money is what so many Americans are concerned about these days. And calling people names is juvenile.

Look you idiots, Jay worked his pants off for this county and you ungrateful simpletons don’t get that. Quit piling on Jay for holding office for 24 years! And quit blaming the fairgrounds on Jay too! He kept that place going and they have a decent fair. All while he kept your taxes low. Wake up to reality people!

If you do support Urdahl why don’t you put your real name down? are you ashamed? Seems so, and frankly I don’t blame you. For all I know you are Urdahl. I herar there are some very damaging reports coming out soon on Urdahl that will blow him out for good; might even result in criminal charges.

Urdahl should withdraw his intent to run again and get out while he can, that way some things might get dropped but that of course would be up to the authorities now or son enough. It isn’t how much you take that determines quilt, like you cannot be a little bit preegnant, either you are or you are not. Right now it is only speculation, but soon it might not be.

Who thinks in any way that a supervisor should hold that position for 24 years? Especially when the meetings are very controlled. The whole thing seems odd that people would think that is a good thing. Think of your own organizations you may be a part of. Church, school, other clubs. Does one person become the leader (or a few leaders) and tightly control it so meetings are short and input from club members is also controlled? Who wants to be a member of that club? It’s our taxes, don’t you people want to know what is going on? We are automatically in the club so maybe we should care how things go.

KIMT was in Minnesota covering a robbery in Austin, but doesn’t even want to cover Mason City. Just like their weekend news and weather-non-existant.
Good job NIT and Chris. Term limits are the only way we are going to get control of our governments, local and national.

Not to bash this site but where is the story on here about the fatality accident yesterday, or a story about any of the girls basketball teams that went to state??!

Your questions are fair. I never claim to get “every” story out there; I do what I can with a limited staff and resources; there are reasons for this. NIT will soon be growing. To answer your questions:
Mason City Man Loses Life

Appreciate you reading NIT.

Chris Watts is a real “gift hores that is knocking on the door. He wants to lower the slaries, move the meeting from time to time to smaller towns to accommodate those elderly who no longer drive to take prt from time to time. Heha volunteered his time to the commnity for years. Don’t let this one get away.

I meant to say “He volunteered”

He wants to lower salaries? Perhaps he should start with yours since you believe it such a great idea.

That is the perfect way to sell out your neighbors, and win the race to the bottom.

I am guessing they meant politicians salaries. It wouldn’t fit what i hvae heard so far about Watts otherwise.

Pretty impressive coverage NIT.
I saw from your site of the announcement, but nothing on KIMT.
Where were they?

I agree I find myself checking this site rather than watching KIMT or reading the globe…They have more stuff on here about our community than any others. I love it thanks for keeping us informed!
