Burlington man faces drug and weapons charges

An investigation following a call about shots being fired from a white pickup has resulted in serious charges being filed against a Burlington man.

DiAngelo Leon Willis, 31, of Burlington will face a Des Moines County jury April 10, with a pretrial conference taking place March 19.

He is charged with third-offense possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver and carrying weapons.

Court papers indicate Willis was convicted of possession with intent to deliver marijuana in Des Moines County in 2002, delivery of cocaine in Lee County in 2002 and possession of marijuana in Lee County in 2007.

The investigation began in December, shortly after police received a call regarding shots being fired on Angular and Summer streets.

Officers were told a person riding in a white truck shot at someone on the street.

Soon, police pulled over a white pickup on Summer Street, the driver of which later was identified as Willis.

During a pat-down search on Willis, police reportedly found brass knuckles in the man’s back pocket.

Three individually wrapped baggies of crack cocaine also were found inside one of Willis’ pockets, police said.

A gun was not located.
