Alliant Energy chairman retiring, president appointed successor

The president and chief operating officer of Alliant Energy has been appointed to succeed William Harvey as chairman, president and chief executive officer of the Madison, Wis.-based energy holding company.

Patricia Kampling, 52, president and chief operating officer, will assume leadership of the company on April 1 after Harvey retires on March 31. Kampling joined Alliant Energy in 2005 and served as chief financial officer from January 2009 to February 2011, treasurer from January 2007 to January 2009 and vice president of finance from July 2005 to January 2007.

Kampling, a registered professional engineer, spent over 20 years serving in various finance, regulatory, and engineering positions at ComEd and other subsidiaries of Exelon Corp. She is a member of the boards of directors of American Transmission Co/ and Briggs and Stratton Corp.

Harvey, who has spent 25 years with Alliant Energy and its predecessor WPL Holdings, has served as chairman and CEO for the last six years.

“Bill Harvey has done an outstanding job developing and executing Alliant Energy’s utility strategy, and in positioning the company and its leadership team for long-term success,” said Michael Bennett, lead independent director on Alliant’s board of directors.

“Pat Kampling’s experience in and knowledge of the industry will enable her to continue to execute on that strategy and lead it in the future. The board has great confidence in Pat and believes she will be an outstanding leader for Alliant Energy.”
