Police: ‘Nanny cam’ caught abuse of twins

Rosemary Sobol, Chicago Tribune –

A 65-year-old woman is accused of physically abusing twin infants earlier this week in the Lincoln Park neighborhood after a “nanny cam’’ filmed it, police said.

Alice Vesely was booked into Cook County Jail Thursday after a judge set her bail at $300,000, according to the Cook County Sheriff’s office.

Vesely, 65, of the 2700 block of Fitch Avenue, was charged with two counts of aggravated battery to a child, police said.

She was arrested after the parents of the 8-month-old twin boys showed police a video filmed Monday showing Vesely physically abusing the boys at a home on West Willow Street, according to a police report.

The “nanny cam’’ showed Vesely slapping, kicking, punching, smothering, grabbing, tossing, and recklessly lifting the twins by their arms and clothing, according to a police report.

The video did not show any outward signs of injuries, but both boys were taken to Children’s Memorial Hospital to be examined, according to the report.

On an unidentified date, a doctor suggested the parents install the surveillance camera system for protection after the doctor found one child suffered minor bruising, the report said.
