Two men face criminal charges after two small explosions late Wednesday night in northwest Cedar Rapids.

Jacob W. Boots, 21, and Brett M. Moore, 27, were charged with reckless use of fire, accused of making “MacGyver” bombs. According to a criminal complaint, the pair combined ingredients in 20-ounce plastic bottles to cause the explosions.

Neighbors reported the explosions around 11:20 p.m. Wednesday, and said two suspects ran inside 814 H Ave. NW. According to the police report, Boots and Moore were inside, and later admitted they set off the home-made bombs in the street.
