Mason City man sentenced to Beje Clark for car theft

MASON CITY – Shawn Armstrong, age 38, of Mason City was sentenced to a residential treatment program at Beje Clark by Judge Colleen Weiland in Cerro Gordo County District court on Monday, November 14th. Judge Colleen Weiland also gave Armstrong a suspended five year prison sentence, three years of probation with the Iowa Department of Corrections, and suspended the minimum $750 dollar fine. Armstrong had negotiated a voluntary guilty plea to a felony count of 2nd degree theft on September 26th.

According to a police incident report, Armstrong was arrested on August 1st after Mason City police responded to a call from a concerned citizen walking her dog observed a man trying to drive a red vehicle into the water on the west side of Big Blue known as the black pit. Other witnesses observed Armstrong leaving the area and continued to watch him until law enforcement arrived. Law enforcement determined the vehicle had been stolen from a storage shed.

Armstrong had been released from jail after pleading guilty on September 26th, but a warrant for his arrest was issued for violating his pre-sentencing release agreement after he was arrested for a public intoxication charge on October 11th. Mason City police arrested Armstrong on the warrant October 17th and he has remained in the Cerro Gordo County Jail.

Armstrong is currently listed on the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff Department’s inmate report as waiting bedspace at Beje Clark.
