Nelson says City should develop policy on financial incentives to businesses

City Councilman Don Nelson wrote a letter Thursday to Mayor Eric Bookmeyer, City Administrator Brent Trout and the rest of the Council asking them to consider two points.

First, he says the City should move to replace the part-time Volunteer Coordinator position, which will soon be vacated by Mary Zishka, who is retiring.

Second, Nelson say the City should “Develop a policy, criteria and guidelines on establishing financial incentives to existing Mason City businesses. What do other cities of our size in Iowa have for policies, criteria, guidelines, and financial incentives to existing businesses? What ever happened to requesting a financial statement from local businesses when they come forward on requests for taxpayer’s dollars?”
