Mason City has been awarded $350,000 from the Iowa Department of Economic Development (IDED) for rehabilitation of 10 owner-occupied single family units. “These funds are critical to maintaining the high quality of life Iowans expect and deserve in some of the smallest cities and rural areas of the state,” said Governor Terry Branstad. “Modern infrastructure, quality housing, and first class community facilities are just as much about economic development as they are about people. These investments will pay dividends for our state long after these projects are completed.”
The City of Mason City requested funds for the rehabilitation of 10 owner-occupied, single-family housing units in the north central area of Mason City. The program is targeting households with incomes at or below the 80% median income limit for Cerro Gordo County and priority will be given to those households with lowest incomes and homes with the most significant health and safety issues that can be addressed with this program.

The program enables communities to make needed improvements to water and sewer systems, improve housing conditions for low-income homeowners, and develop the best child care facilities for Iowa’s youth.
The city of Floyd also received funds totalling $300,00 for water distribution system improvements.
The Iowa Department of Economic Development (IDED) awarded the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds to support 88 community investment projects. The federally funded grants were awarded for community facilities, infrastructure improvements, and single family owner-occupied housing rehabilitation.
