MASON CITY — Jasmine Barrientes, 15, of Mason City, died after a Saturday afternoon roll-over accident in Worth County, according to the Iowa State Patrol.
Barrientes was a passenger in a 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by Brianna Staudt, 17, of Mason City.
According to the State Patrol accident report, the vehicle was northbound on Raven Avenue, a half-mile south of Highway 9, when it crossed the centerline and the driver overcorrected and lost control.
The vehicle entered the east ditch and rolled, coming to rest facing southward. Barrientes was not wearing a seatbelt, according to the accident report. She was flown by helicopter to Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa.
Another passenger in the vehicle, Kristina Daoud, 15, of Mason City, was injured in the accident. She was taken by ambulance to Mercy and was listed in fair condition. She was wearing a seatbelt.
The State Patrol is continuing to investigate the accident, assisted by the Manly and Plymouth fire departments. The accident was reported about 2:55 p.m. Saturday. |
