Workers are steadily completing work on the streetscape project in downtown Mason City. Intersections on Federal Avenue at 4th Street and 2nd Street will be closed beginning Monday morning.

General notes on the project, from Pamela Myhre, Growth Development & Planning Director:

In order to accommodate businesses that are water-dependent, it will be necessary to close both the 4th Street intersection and the 2nd Street intersection on Federal for several days next week beginning Monday, May 2 to finish up water line work. The 3rd Street intersection will be open during this time. When work is completed, both the 4th Street and 2nd Street intersections will reopen and the 3rd Street intersection will close.

Work to be completed during the week of May 2nd, weather-permitting:

McKiness
A crew will finish up water service connections between 2nd and 3rd Streets. McKiness will coordinate with individual businesses as temporary water shutoffs are needed.

A second crew continues storm sewer installation, working south from 4th Street. A third crew will continue coring out the sidewalk area in the block between 1st and 2nd Streets in preparation of sidewalk paving.

Work continues in State Street, north of the Park Inn Hotel, to replace the water main. When that work is completed, the hotel construction project will utilize the street to finish their work. The State Street intersection will remain closed.

Work may begin in the plaza to remove the temporary asphalt sidewalks in preparation for concrete paving. Access to the front doors of plaza businesses will be limited during the plaza construction period.

Wicks
Sidewalk paving will begin in the block between 1st and 2nd Streets. This is almost a 2-week effort, with one side completed each week, beginning on the east side of the block.

Work will continue on the masonry piers all along Federal.

Country Landscape
Installation of pavers will begin in the block between State and 1st Street to complete the sidewalk and reopen the sidewalks on both sides to pedestrian traffic.
