Walton Stadium Saturday was filled with first-place finishes for many Iowa State sprinters and distance runners. The Cyclones concluded the meet with seven event winners.

Junior sprinter Kianna Elahi highlighted competition on the day for Iowa State as she broke the Missouri Relays record in the 400-meter hurdles by over two seconds, winning the race in 57.71. The previous meet record (59.83) was set in 2006 by Nikki Pauli who competed unattached.

The Cyclone women provided an exciting end to the meet, taking the title in the 4×400-meter relay. The team of Donnise Powell, Dana Christensen, Elahi and Callan Jacobson put together a time of 3:47.17, finishing nearly five seconds ahead of Big 12 North rival Missouri.

After placing fifth in the 1,500-meter run earlier in the day, Elphas Sang led the Iowa State men in a first-place finish in the 800-meter run. The Cyclones also took first in the women’s 800-meter run with Kersen Thorgaard leading the pack with a 2:14.74 finish. Earlier in the day, Thorgaard was also the runner-up in the 1,500-meter run.

Derek Alderks improved upon his personal best mark in the high jump by over three inches on his way to an event title. Freshman Cameron Ostrowski took second in the event in his first collegiate outdoor competition.

Alongside the veterans, multiple freshmen also showed strong performances on the track as well. Alex Dillenbeck won the 1,500-meter run while Christensen took the women’s 400-meter dash title.

The Cyclones will compete next at the Sun Angel Track Classic in Tempe, Ariz. April 7-9.
