Arrest made in connection with auto theft and burglary

On Wednesday shortly after 11:00 p.m., officers were dispatched to the tennis court at West Park on a report that there was a van driving recklessly on the court. When officers arrived, they found that a vehicle had driven off 1st Street Northwest, crashed though the tennis court fence and was left abandoned on the tennis court. Officers checked a nearby residence and arrested Benjamin Bravo Gonzalez (27) of Mason City.

After further investigation it was determined that Gonzalez had stolen the van that was driven through the tennis court fence and had also committed a burglary to a residence in the zero hundred block of South Jefferson.

Gonzalez was charged with possession of stolen property in the second degree (Class D felony) and burglary in the third degree (Class D felony). He was also charged with failure to maintain control and leaving the scene of a property damage accident, both simple misdemeanors. Gonzalez is being held on $5,000 bond at the Cerro Gordo County Jail.
