North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC) will host a Career Conference for all eighth-grade students in the NIACC region on Friday, March 11, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the NIACC campus. The conference will provide information designed to help students develop a plan of study for their high school and postsecondary education.
Sessions will be led by NIACC faculty, staff and local leaders. “We are excited to offer this conference for all eighth grade students in our region,” said Deb Throne, NIACC School Partnership Coordinator. “Presentations are designed to help students explore career pathways so they can develop a high school education plan that will take them plan their future.”
Sessions will represent the 16 national career clusters, of which each student has chosen two. National career clusters include:
1) Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources
2) Architecture & Construction
3) Manufacturing
4) Arts, A/V Technology & Communications
5) Business Management & Administration
6) Finance
7) Marketing
8) Hospitality & Tourism
9) Education & Training
10) Government & Public Administration
11) Human Services
12) Health Science
13) Information Technology
14) Law, Public Safety, Corrections & Security
15) Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics (STEM)
16) Transportation, Distribution & Logistics
Career clusters were developed with input from business, industry, and educational leaders from across the nation. Each state has defined clusters, based on what works best for them and their population. Career clusters provide descriptions of the knowledge and skills students will need to be successful in that career cluster. Using this information, students are then better armed to develop an educational plan for their high school and college career.
