Schmidtke memorial benefit Feb. 19

MASON CITY -Friends and family of Colby Schmidtke, the 16-year-old Mason City High School student who died after an Oct. 27 automobile accident, will have a memorial benefit in his honor beginning at 1 p.m. Feb. 19 at the National Guard Armory in Mason City.

MASON CITY -Friends and family of Colby Schmidtke, the 16-year-old Mason City High School student who died after an Oct. 27 automobile accident, will have a memorial benefit in his honor beginning at 1 p.m. Feb. 19 at the National Guard Armory in Mason City.

There will be a live auction with Rex Taylor, plus food, beverages and entertainment.

Schmidtke was a passenger in a car that went out of control and ended up in the Winnebago River along Birch Drive. He died a day later from injuries suffered in the accident.

Schmidtke was the son of Dale and Brenda Schmidtke, brother to Samantha Schmidtke, and grandson of Ben Berding, Marge Berding and Joyce Schmidtke.

The benefit will be preceded by a snowmobile run beginning at noon at the armory. All proceeds from the benefit will go to a memorial fund.
