More from Tuesday’s Park Board meeting

Tuesday night the Mason City Parks & Rec. Department Board met at City Hall. Among the items discussed:

Brenda Schumaker won the coach of the year for our youth sports. She is a girls soccer coach. She said her team didn’t win a game last year, but is so far undefeated this year. (See video at end of story.)

A Chamber of Commerce proposal asking the board for endorsement of an idea that would have limited consumption of alcohol during Band Fest weekend was voted down 5-0. The board was all in favor of the “beverage garden” but did not think it was fair to limit where people could drink in the park. (See video at end of story.)

The Margaret MacNider Campground will open on April 23, 2011.

The warming house at Ray Rorick Park at the ice rink has heat and has been well used, according to Brian Pauly, Interim Recreation Department Manager.

Dr. Jay Lala introduced plans for a possible hot dog vending cart that would operate in Central Park beginning this Spring. It would be open over the lunch hour there, and could also operate at special events. Dr. Lala, whose office is located on North Federal Ave. across from Central Park, asked the board for suggestions and placement ideas for the cart. The cart would be called “Dr. Dawg.”
