Chocolate and Romance, a fundraiser for the Humane Society of North Iowa, will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Muse Norris Conference Center at North Iowa Area Community College.
The fifth-annual event will feature a fasion show, wine-tasting, silent auction and, of course, lots of chocolate, said Sybil Soukup, executive director of the local Humane Society.
Tickets cost $15, with all proceeds going to the humane society.
Soukup said the organization relies heavily on donor support and fundraisers and has seen an increase in the number of animals being released by families who can no longer afford to feed and care properly for their pets.
“It seems to be getting better, but last year we had a lot of people who, because of financial reasons due to the economy, released their pets to us,” she said, adding that there has been a waiting list for releases. The society charges $25 per release to cover costs of care.
The fundraiser will run from 2-4 p.m.|
