Mason City police arrest man on warrant

On January 18th, 2011 at approximately 3:00p.m. Mason City Police Officers were dispatched to a Domestic call at 2822 North Carolina Ave., Mason City, Ia. Upon the officers arrival the male half, identified as Michael Reich, age 22, of Mason City fled the residence on foot. He attempted to hide at another property nearby, but officers were able to locate him there. As the officers were making entry into the property he fled again on foot back to the initial call location. Officers then secured the basement of the residence while more officers were arriving on scene. After several attempts to get Reich out of the basement the officers made entry and found that Reich had barricaded himself in a small crawl space between the floor boards and the foundation. After negotiating with Reich for several minutes he gave up and exited of the crawl space without incident.

Reich was wanted on a Felony warrant from fleeing the Cerro Gordo County Court House during his sentencing to prison for a Burglary 3rd charge the previous week.

The Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office and Mason City Fire Department assisted at the scene.|
