Cornelia Spelman will give a reading and book signing

Cornelia Spelman, author of the newly published memoir, Missing, will give a reading and book signing on Saturday, November 20, 2010. The program will be held at 2:00pm in Room 133 adjacent to the Commons in the renovated Mason City Public Library.

This memoir of her family springs from a meeting and subsequent friendship with the late, legendary New Yorker editor William Maxwell, a college friend of her parents. Missing is the story of Spelman’s mother. With the pacing of the mystery novels her mother loved, and using everything from letters to interviews, Spelman reconstructs her mother’s life and untimely death. Along the way, she includes the “back story” of her grandfather Sam Schneider’s home in Rock Glen built by Walter Burley Griffin.

This program is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be provided by Bestseller’s Coffee CafÈ located in the Commons of the library.|
