MASON CITY – Recent vandalism at City Hall has come at a high price. At least $1500 in damage has been done to windows and doors at City Hall that were shot at using what appears to be slingshots and marbles or pellets of some kind. Evidence of the projectiles was found on the sidewalk below the damaged areas.

Sources are telling NorthIowaToday.com that City Hall of Mason City has been the target of vandals several times in the last few weeks. There appears to be a rash of vandalism in the city at the moment, as paintballers have also harassed businesses and pedestrians. Vandalism at grave sites in Elmwood Cemetery has even forced the closure of the Monroe entrance/exit in the evening.

Mike McKelvey of the Mason City Police Department sent us this statement: “We are looking for any help from the public regarding the recent vandalism downtown (paintballs and window vandalism) as well as recent graffiti activity at the parks (mainly Ray Rorick Park or Big Blue).”

We ask anyone with information on these incidents to contact MCPD at 641-421-3636.
