Carol Josephine Meader, 75, of Rockford, IA passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 14, 2022 at the 9th Street Chautauqua Guest Home.

Carol Josephine Meader, 75, of Rockford, IA passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 14, 2022 at the 9th Street Chautauqua Guest Home.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 20, 2022 from 5-7:00 p.m. at Fullerton-Hage Funeral Home, 401 Blunt St, Charles City. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. with a one-hour prior visitation on Wednesday, December 21, 2022 at St John Evangelical Lutheran Church, 200 S Main St, Charles City. Pastor Russ Leeper will be officiating and inurnment will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Charles City.

Carol was born on January 10, 1947 in Charles City to Marvin and Rossella (Arndt) Ross, the 4th born of 8 children. Her childhood was spent growing up in Colwell, IA. She attended Charles City schools and graduated from Charles City High School. On July 16, 1966, she was united in marriage to Jerry Meader at The Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA. The couple originally met through a mutual friend then fell in love and had 56 years of marriage together.

Carol began working in the late 1960’s as a CNA for Floyd County Medical Center until she was promoted to Ward Clerk and lastly held the title of Office Supervisor until retirement. Her employees and colleagues thought of her as an honest and good boss, she was always easy to talk to and remembered by many hospital staff even well after retirement.

In her younger years she enjoyed going dancing with her husband Jerry. Carol also liked taking bus trips with her sister Teri and going sight-seeing. Carol had many nieces and nephews and was very involved with their activities and made sure to always attend. She liked going for walks with her husband and her niece, Amanda. Every year at Easter she bought her nieces and nephews kites, she liked to spoil them. Holidays, especially Christmas, was a very important time of the year for Carol to spend time with her family. She was known for all of the treats and Christmas goodies she made. She loved to host for the holidays.

In her free time, Carol was an avid flower and vegetable gardener and did a lot of canning. She liked the simple and practical things in life. Above all else, her family was the most important to her and she will be missed dearly by all those who loved and knew her.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Jerry Meader; sisters, Fran Berchtold and Vicki Inman; brother, Jimmie (Gwen) Ross; sister-in-law, Jennie Ross; many nieces and nephews and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Marvin Ross Jr., Roger Ross and Larry Ross; sister, Teri Ross and brothers-in-law, Bruce Inman and Joe Berchtold.
