OBIT: Gary Lee Schriever

Gary Lee Schriever, 83, of Rockford, IA died peacefully at home on Sunday, August 21, 2022. No services are planned at this time.

Gary was born on April 9, 1939 in Charles City, IA to Benjamin and Genevieve (Kornegor) Schriever; he was the oldest of 7 children. Through-out his life he worked for Oliver in Charles City, International Harvester in Rudd and Fischer Chevrolet in Rockford. Gary most recently worked as a supervisor for the Rockford Light Plant for many years.

His hobbies included hunting, fishing and camping; he especially enjoyed fishing at Devil’s Lake in North Dakota. His biggest passion was snowmobiling. Gary also loved horses and miniature donkeys. He was an avid NASCAR fan and took frequent ranger drives with his dog Tank. Gary was a very hard-worker and could always be found tinkering with something. He was most proud of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; he absolutely adored being their grandpa. Gary will be missed dearly by all those who loved and knew him.

Those left to cherish his memory include his children, Crystal (Joe) Rex and Justin (Tiara) Schriever and family; Crystal and Justin’s mother, Karla Putnam; his life partner of almost 12 years, Mari Batty and her son Jason Batty and his daughter’s Skylar, Brooke and Reagan Batty; 4 grandchildren: Matison (Tyler) Howe, Allyson (Lane) Schreurs, Dillon (Olivia) Schriever and Dawson (Jack) Schriever; 4 great-grandchildren: Bryleigh and Zeplyn Howe and Wyatt and Presley Schreurs; 3 brothers, Larry (Carol) Schriever, Ron Schriever and Danny (Rhonda) Schriever; sister-in-law, Nancy Schriever; his beloved dog, “Tank,” and many nieces, nephews and other family members.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin and Genevieve Schriever; siblings, Margie (Donny) Swedberg, Denny “Buck” Schriever and Jim Schriever and sister-in-law, Bonnie Schriever.
