OBIT: Lela Banwart

Lela Banwart, age 94 of West Bend, passed away on her 94th birthday, Tuesday, February 1, 2022 at the West Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2022 at 10:30 AM at the Apostolic Christian Church in West Bend. Burial will take place in the Apostolic Christian Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday from 4:00 – 6:30 PM and on Saturday from 9:30 AM until service time at the Apostolic Fellowship Center.

Lela Mae Banwart, the daughter of Paul Perry and Elizabeth (Benninger) Banwart, was born on February 1, 1928 in West Bend, Iowa. She graduated from West Bend High School in 1946. Lela worked as a secretary at the West Bend Elevator for over 40 years. She loved the church and enjoyed the fellowship of those of all ages. Lela enjoyed traveling domestically and internationally. She had 45 nieces and nephews and treated them all like her children.

Left to cherish Lela’s memory are her brothers, Paul (Emy) Banwart, Jr. of Casa Grande, AZ, Bob (Carolyn) Banwart of Waukee, IA, and sister-in-laws Ada Banwart (Edwin) Mediapolis, IA and Betty Banwart (Benjamin) of West Bend, IA and 43 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Clara Anliker, Miriam Frieden, Leona Wulf, Alice Metzger and Esty Metzger; brothers, Arthur, Elmer, Edwin, Arnold and Benjamin Banwart; a niece, Twyla Bejema; and a nephew Jimmy Frieden.
