OBIT: Doris Halstead

Doris Halstead, 93, of Charles City, passed away Wednesday, January 5, 2022 at the 11th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

A private family graveside service will be held at a later date.

Doris Eleanor (Butler) Halstead was born April 23, 1928 in Sycamore, Illinois to her parents Vernie and Rollin Butler. She grew up in Oelwien, Iowa. On August 12, 1948 she married John “Jack” Halstead and they had three children. They spent their married life in the Colwell and Charles City area. In retirement they enjoyed traveling and spending their winters in Florida.

After raising her family, Doris painted houses for Tinius Construction and then went on to work on houses she and her husband purchased either for rental property or for resale.

Doris enjoyed the outdoors, her family, bowling, golf, playing cards, gardening, trout fishing, and her Bible Study group. She was also an avid animal lover.

Doris was a member of the Congregational Church, Women’s Fellowship, and Bible Study Group. She was a past President of the Women’s Fellowship.

Doris is survived by her son, John (Dawn) Halstead; two daughters: Nancy (Tom) Halbur and Deb (Dan) Cashman; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents, Vernie and Rollin Butler; her husband, Jack; her brother, Jim; and her sister, Norma.

Those who so desire can make memorial donations to Paws Humane Society, 303 Shaw Avenue, Charles City, Iowa 50616 in memory of Doris.
