DES MOINES – Only minutes into the brand new 2022 Iowa Legislative session, jaw-dropping attacks and accusations were hurled by the extreme right-wing Senate leader against the teddy bears of public servants – teachers.
The Iowa Legislature opened up for its 2022 session Monday morning, and just minutes into the first day, Republican Senate President Jake Chapman of Adel used his opening remarks to refer to Iowa teachers as “sinister,” saying teachers are “normalizing sexually deviant behavior against our children” and Iowa teachers are “sinister” in teaching their “agenda” in the classroom.
In response to the brazen attack on Iowa’s beleaguered, hard-working, underpaid teachers, a statement was released by Iowa State Education Association President Mike Beranek and forwarded by Cerro Gordo county Democrats. They demanded Chapman apologize for his “divisive” and “outrageous” remarks:
“We are outraged by lows Senate President Jake Chapman’s claims that the individuals working so hard in low’s public schools have “sinister” motives in their intent to educate students.
We remind Sen. Chapman the individuals he is attacking are the same ones who have delivered food, school supplies and electronic devices to families and students shut-in during the pandemic. Educators continue to cover colleagues’ classrooms while Omicron races through their workplaces. They lead and teach in overcrowded classrooms with outdated materials, pay out of their own pockets for Kleenex, food, and classroom supplies for whom it means so much, and continue to fight for safe and healthy school environments because they know their workplace directly affects their students.
In my more than 34 years as a public education employee, I have witnessed countless selfless acts by my colleagues. Not once have I witnessed so-called sinister ones.
Senator Chapman owes all Iowans an apology for his attempt at dividing us with cheap, angry, and untruthful rhetoric. We call on all elected leaders, regardless of party affiliation, to stand in support of the more than 50,000 education professionals working so hard on behalf of Iowa families.”
Chapman wants total control over books in Iowa schools, apparently taking choice away from professional educators and placing parents and the lawmakers in charge. He said, “The attack on our children is no longer hidden. Those who wish to normalize sexually deviant behavior against our children, including pedophilia and incest, are pushing this movement more than ever before … some teachers are disguising sexually obscene material as desired subject matter and profess it has artistic and literary value.”
Chapman has indicated he would put teachers in jail if they teach “obscene” material that evidently, he would judge in that context.

The Dems are outraged that someone is concerned that we have porn in some School Libraries, and those School systems refuse to remove the porn? If these books were read out loud on a radio station, that station would be taken off air by the FCC and lose it’s license to broadcast. In fact, at one School board meeting, a mother started to read the book to the School board, as she read it, the live stream of the meeting was taken down because of the content in that book was so sexually explicit. We don’t need our kids exposed to this crap. If you want your kids reading it, you should not be a parent in my opinion.
Your definition of porn and a legal definition (there is one but it’s vague as hell) are probably quite different. My mother would call what is on channel 3 porn but to her, ‘porn’ was sex. If a woman showed too much (in her opinion) cleavage on television, it was porn. Kids today have access to sex, including porn, on their computers or watches or ipads anytime they want it. They are naturally curious about life at that age and why not have that exposure to sex in a controlled place where questions can be answered plainly? Or would you rather have them exposed in a dark alley or with 5 of her/his friends or someplace where an adult can honestly answer their questions? I know plenty of books that wouldn’t be read at a School Board meeting and they are classics.
Finally, I would think parents who sit down and discuss the book with their children are very fit to be parents. It is not 1966 John.
Teacher unions ARE the PROBLEM. Most teachers would agree if they weren’t afraid to be terminated.
Also those local representatives who support them at All COSTS need to be removed from office.

The enrollment is down, and our taxes were increased 24.5% this year, it is outrageous, over $4.5 million increase to the Mason City Schools this year compared to last year!
So what are you doing about it? Here is a blurb that explains part of that 5 million is because the state won’t up the special education allotment. 14 years the same amount of money given for special education. The really telling statement is the last one in the article.

I used to vote Republican, Democrat, and Independent. I admit I was upset when the person I vote for didn’t win, but I accepted it and moved on.
