MASON CITY – Park board members in Mason City will now be paid a yearly sum after the city council approved the idea this week.

The Mason City Park Board requested that the City Council make a modification to city code to allow for a small payment to be made to the individuals that serve on this board. The amount of annual compensation is $780.00 per Park and Recreation Board Member. The Board’s conversation around the recommendation was to provide some compensation for hours spent serving on the board and the amount of time spent meeting with staff and the public and visiting Park and Recreation facilities throughout the city.

The City Council approved this item on First Reading at its December 7, 2021 meeting and on Second Reading at its December 21, 2021 meeting. The measure was approved on final reading this past Tuesday.

The ordinance change will increase the budget for next year by just over $4,000.
