4 Things That Are Just As Good Second Hand

There’s no denying that the internet has opened a huge number of doors for the average person.

Whether you want to study a degree from the safety of your home, need some DIY tips, or want to bag yourself a bargain, there’s a place on the internet for you.

In fact, just about anything you want is readily available in just a few clicks – making it a pretty dangerous place for any shopaholics!

While it’s easy to head onto Amazon and buy all the things you need with super speedy, next-day delivery, have you ever considered what kind of impact this is having on the planet?

As the public shift to all things sustainable, plenty of people are now selling and shopping second-hand, rather than brand new. This not only saves you money but also stops all sorts of things from ending up in landfill. Clothing, washing machines, plastic toys, you name it. None of it is particularly easy to recycle, so it’s because to reuse, donate and sell onto someone in need.

There are some things that are just as good – if not better – second-hand. So rather than shopping online for shiny new things, consider savvy shopping for the following items.

If you have any of the below items to donate, you can also check out charities in Houston that may be interested in taking it off your hands to give to someone less fortunate.

Appliances

Let’s face it, appliances are incredibly expensive. If you rent your current property, there is no point in paying full price for appliances you may not need when you move house. A lot of rented accommodation has built-in appliances, with the odd few requiring you to buy your own.

In these cases, checking out sites like Freecycle or Facebook Marketplace could save you a pretty penny. As technology advances, more and more people are selling up their old, perfectly working appliances for newer, better models. This means you have the opportunity to get your hands on a great condition appliance for a fraction of the cost.

Designer goods

If you love having all the top designer brands in your wardrobe but don’t necessarily have the budget to achieve this, second-hand stores and apps are your new best friend. Charity shops and apps like Depop are perfect for scouting out designer clothing without the hefty price tag. Sure, it may not be the latest season, but it’s still exciting!

Plastic toys

You’ll know by now that the fight against plastic is never-ending. And while there’s definitely rationale for ditching new plastic products and packaging, reusing old items is still as good.

Rather than buying the kids all the latest toys and tat, buy it second-hand. Plastic doesn’t deteriorate with age, so toys from a few years ago will still be in good condition now.

If the kids are little enough, they’ll be happy with any toy and won’t know the difference between old and new.

First time cars

You’ve just passed your test and want to be on the road within weeks. Rather than spending all your savings on a new flashy car that you might end up bumping or scratching, buy a second-hand vehicle to get you from A to B. You’ll likely find that a cheaper car will also come with cheaper insurance too.
