UNI men’s and women’s cross country teams compete at regionals

IOWA CITY – The Panther men’s and women’s cross country teams had similar finishes in the Midwest Regional Championships at the University of Iowa today.

In the women’s 6K, UNI finished in 23rd place, with a score of 622 points. The University of Minnesota won the women’s race, with a total of 45 points.

UNI’s Kiki Connell was one of just eight freshmen to finish in the top 55. Connell led UNI with a time of 21 minutes, 41.51 seconds and a 54th place finish. Kate Crawford finished 127th with a time of 22:39.86. Mia Rampton finished in 22:53.77 at 141st.

Missouri Valley Conference placed 19 runners in the top 100, with nine of them being freshmen.

For the men’s 10K, the Panthers finished in 24th place, scoring 651 points. Oklahoma State University was the champion on the men’s side with 43 points.

The men were led by Sam McCool in their first 10K of the season. McCool finished the 10K with a personal best time of 32:18.19 and 84th place. Freshman Payton Marrs took 110th place in a time of 32:46.92. Andrew Kephart and David Holesinger also set new personal bests finishing in 150th and 154th place, respectively. Kephart finished in 33:24.65, and Holesinger finished with a time of 33:26.86.

The Missouri Valley Conference had 18 runners place overall in the top 100.
