Iowa lib’s ecstatic: Iowans win after pushing GOP politicians to back fair maps

Matt Sinovic of Progress Iowa with his political allies Amanda Ragan and Sharon Steckman
DES MOINS – Today, Progress Iowa executive director Matt Sinovic released the following statement in response to the Iowa legislature approving the second non-partisan map submitted by the Legislative Services Agency:

“Iowans are good neighbors, and whether we’re helping to shovel a neighbor’s driveway or lending a hand to a friend, we know how to support our communities and what they need.”

“Today at long last the legislature voted to move ahead with nonpartisan election maps, after partisan delays by Republican politicians dragged out the process in an attempt to divide us into districts that serve their political interests instead of our communities’ needs.”

“We want to thank every Iowan who advocated for fair maps during this process. Fair maps will give every Iowa family a better chance to have strong public schools, good health care, a good paying job, clean drinking water, equal rights, and ensure our communities are whole for a decade to come.”

“Unfortunately we know that the battle over fair representation doesn’t end today. Republicans are still intent on ripping away our voting rights and suppressing turnout by limiting advance voting and access to the ballot on election day. We will continue to fight for every Iowan to have access to the ballot and fair representation in our state.”

Progress Iowa claims to be a multi-issue progressive advocacy organization with a network of more than 75,000 progressives.
