REDISTRICTING UPDATE
First redistricting plan voted down
Last week, legislators rejected the redistricting maps drawn up by our state’s nonpartisan Legislative Services Agency.

Adopting Map 2 can safeguard Iowans’ voices
The Legislative Services Agency will release a second nonpartisan proposal for new Congressional and state legislative districts by October 21. I plan to vote for the second map because I expect it will be drawn according to the same fair, nonpartisan standards as the first.
The Legislature must wait at least seven days after the proposal is released before voting on it. The special session to vote on the second map is set for Thursday, October 28.
What you can do before Oct. 28 vote
Please encourage your legislators to put Iowans first by adopting fair, nonpartisan maps. It’s about respecting the power and right of Iowa voters to decide the future of our state.

What kind of moron votes for Dems anyway? Why do people think soaring costs of living and glamorized poverty are a good thing. Anybody with any type of morals or a sense of pride in their country, stands with conservatives. Left/liberals=communism.
We do know there are countless “single mothers” out there living way above their means and barely working. They know the paperwork game to get paid by their real significant other, the Government.
You’re not really in any position to have a negative opinion of people who suckle at the government teat there buddy.
Not sure how this is related, but yes, abusing the system is definitely a left/dem trait. People like Ragan are all to willing to take hard earned money from Iowans and give it to the less ambitious.
Define: “less ambitious” versus a decades-long grifter like, say, Charles Grassley, who feasts on paychecks and farm subsidies … what is the difference? One games the system, the other games the system. Hence, no difference in the end.
Amanda is clearly playing politics here as she claims the republicans of doing, that is what liberals do. This is not political or gerrymandering, this is the non partisan process that is rated top in the nation for fairness. The new map had obvious errors in several areas of the state on both the republican side and dem side. Two examples are Randy Finstra’s area, in his new district, he could never be beaten by a democrat. The other is Liz Mathis’s area, where she could never win over a dem. This process is just to refine the map to make things competitive as it should be. The next map will have to be adopted, whatever in looks like, they will have no choice. This is hardly gerrymandering. The republicans just flipped a coin and hoped they could get a better map. This is not partisan at all.
In Iowa, the committee that determines the districts consists of 2 republicans, 2 democrats and one more person approved by the other 4. Good plan. The big problem is that if the legislature rejects all 3 of the commission’s proposals they can draw their own map. The governor also can veto any map approved by the commission and approved by the legislature. If our current legislative leaders and governor don’t like the non-partisan plan for any reason, it is toast. Since 1980, when this plan was first implemented, no legislature has failed to approve at least one of the commission’s 3 plans. No governor has ever vetoed one of the commission’s redistricting plans. We will have to wait to see what this legislature will do. I wouldn’t put any of my money on them approving any of the first three maps nor would I bet that the governor will stay out of it.

Only if one believes in doing what is right not what is right for the party. Unfortunately, the Republicans don’t believe that.
