Iowa woman struck and killed by auto driver

CLIVE, IOWA – An Iowa woman was struck and killed by an auto driver recently in this Des Moines suburb.

On September 19, 2021, at 6:28 AM, Clive Police responded to a vehicle/pedestrian accident in the 9300 block of Hickman Road. At the time, a female victim was located and lifesaving measures were performed by Clive Emergency Medical Service (EMS) crews and officers. The female was transported to a local hospital in serious condition and was admitted for treatment. At the time of the accident she did not have any identification on her, and there was no indication of where she came from or was going to. The driver involved was not injured.

The victim in this incident was later identified as 31-year-old Kelsey Lee Hardy of Des Moines, Iowa. Sadly, we have learned that Kelsey did succumb to her injuries, but in accordance with her wishes as an organ donor, she will provide life to others in need.

The driver in this case has been identified as 27-year-old Julia Schorr of Clive, Iowa. She was not injured in the crash and no charges are expected at this time.

“This was a tragic accident, in every sense of the word, and our thoughts and prayers have been with the families of Kelsey and Julia throughout this incident” said Clive Chief of Police, Michael Venema.

Clive Police were assisted in this investigation by the Clive Fire Department, Iowa State Patrol, Polk County Sheriff’s Office and Urbandale Police Department.
