NIACC women’s golf place 2nd at Waldorf Fall Invite

ALBERT LEA, MN – The NIACC women’s golf team placed second at the Waldorf University Fall Invitational Sunday at the Wedgewood Cove Golf Club.

NIACC shot a 342. Host Waldorf won the tournament with a 337.

“We put together a strong day (Sunday) and I’m very proud of them all,” NIACC coach Chris Frenz said.

Dickinson State University and DMACC tied for third with a pair of 344s and Iowa Wesleyan was fifth with a 353.

NIACC was led by Hailey Panos with a career-best 81. Panos’ previous career best round was 82 twice.

“Hailey Panos was solid tee to green all day and did a fantastic of managing her her game (Sunday),” Frenz said. “Her goal was nothing worse than a bogey and she did that and it paid off.”

Also Sunday for the Trojans, Ashley Voves shot a fall season-best 83, Alyssa Alert shot a career-best 86, Sophie Lunning shot a 92, Kirsten Boerjan shot a career-best 94 and MaKenna Hanson shot a 95.

“Ashley Voves and Alyssa Alert played well again (Sunday) overall,” Frenz said. “Sophie and MaKenna are close to breaking into that 80s range with some better putting for Sophie and just cleaning up some mistakes for MaKenna,” Frenz said. “It was also great to see Kirsten hit the ball well (Sunday).

“She’s been struggling a bit, but I can see a lot of positive starting to emerge.”

The NIACC women will play in another Waldorf Fall Invite on Monday starting at 10:30 a.m.
