NIACC men’s golf shoot 311 at Waldorf Fall Invite

ALBERT LEA, MN – The NIACC men’s golf team shot a 311 and placed 10th at the Waldorf University Fall Invitational Sunday at the Wedgewood Cove Golf Club.

Bellevue won the 12-team tournament with a 272 and Iowa Central was second with a 283.

“This was a much more encouraging day (Sunday) for the men’s team,” NIACC coach Chris Frenz said. “We really hung in there (Sunday) and showed some fight.”

NIACC was led by freshman Bryce Malchow with a 77.

“Bryce had a solid day with a 77 and got off to a great start,” Frenz said.

“I love how he just hangs in there all 18 holes. I know he’s a little disappointed he didn’t go lower with the start he had, but he also battled through a couple of double bogeys.

Other counting scores for the Trojans were Jack Barragy (78), Bradley Vaith (78) and Andrew Crane 78.

“Barragy, Vaith and Crane coming in with 78s is encouraging,” Frenz said, “likewise with Wiersma and Ritter.

Also for the Trojans, Jacob Wiersma shot 78, Eric Ritter shot 78, Kai Nelles shot 81 and Hunter Heintz shot 81.

“If we get Kai Nelles rolling in that No. 1 spot and the guys keep trending lower and we’ll be just fine,” Frenz said.

The NIACC women will play in another Waldorf Fall Invite on Monday starting at 10:30 a.m.

Team standings – Bellevue 272, Iowa Central 283, North Central University 290, Bellevue B 294, Dickinson State 296, Viterbo 300, Waldorf 301, Wartburg 304, Grand View 310, NIACC 311, Iowa Wesleyan 320, Viterbo B 331.
