Senator Ragan says “hard-working Iowans deserve support”

Amanda Ragan
The following is a legislative update from State Senator Amanda Ragan, representing portions of Franklin, Butler and Cerro Gordo counties:

On Labor Day, let’s renew our commitment to Iowa’s working families.

When you put in a 40-hour work week, your contributions should be valued enough that you can make ends meet and provide opportunities for your family.

Hard-working Iowans have faced a lot of challenges in recent years—wages that don’t keep up with inflation, a lack of child care options and a pandemic that has upended everything.

The result? Workforce challenges, a child care shortage, a maternal health crisis, small businesses that still have not recovered from the pandemic and more.

Iowans continue to fight for an economy that works for all of us. This year, you succeeded by fending off multiple proposals to reduce help for Iowans who lost jobs through no fault of their own during a global pandemic and record-high unemployment.

We still have a lot to do to ensure a fair shake for Iowans who punch the clock every day.

Infrastructure bill is good for Iowans
We must lay the foundation for a robust and equitable recovery for all Iowans. The bipartisan infrastructure framework making its way through Congress can jumpstart our efforts.

It’s a significant long-term investment in our infrastructure and competitiveness—something Iowa desperately needs. On its most recent infrastructure report card, the American Society of Civil Engineers gave Iowa a C grade.

The federal proposal would allow us to overhaul our critical infrastructure, build a stronger Iowa economy and improve life in every community, while creating great jobs and training students and workers with the skills they need to do those jobs.

Here in Iowa, we’ll get to:

* Repair and rebuild our roads and bridges. Iowa has 4,571 bridges and more than 403 miles of highway in poor condition. Commute times are on the rise, and expenses are going up for car repairs and other costs of driving on bad roads.

* Improve transportation options. Iowans who take public transportation spend an extra 30% of their time commuting via transit vehicles that are often past their useful life. The Bipartisan Infrastructure Framework will allow us to modernize and expand transportation options Iowans need.

* Strengthen infrastructure for 21st Century challenges, such as cyber-attacks and extreme weather events. From 2010 to 2020, Iowa had 32 extreme weather events, costing the state tens of billions in damages. The Bipartisan Infrastructure Framework aims to improve the resiliency of our infrastructure and support disaster recovery.

* Deliver clean drinking water. Over the next 20 years, Iowa’s drinking water infrastructure will require $7.9 billion in additional funding. The Bipartisan Infrastructure Framework will invest in clean, safe drinking water for all communities, and eliminate lead service lines and pipes.

* Connect every American to reliable broadband. 13.4% of Iowans live in areas where there is no access to high-speed Internet, and 61% have only one broadband option. The Framework will bring universal, reliable, high-speed, affordable service to every Iowa neighborhood.

They deserve tax deductions!!!!!!!!
Less government !!!!!

PARENTS WAKE UP !!

Today at John Adam’s middle school the English teacher pressured kids to kneel for the Marxist BLM movement!! If this did in fact occur she needs to be fired immediately!!!

Don’t believe everything the guy sitting next to you at the bar says. Also, don’t believe 11 year olds either. Check for yourself.

Any democrat politician needs to worry there power and stupid policies are about to end !!!

I don’t think many are worried.

And been paid very good from most of them too.

Most of the broadband infrastructure they talk about belongs to 1 company. This company has always had crappy service, it is up and down more than a Yo-Yo during any given day. Got to pay for Med i(HATE)a C O M.

We must support teachers who care enough about their students to push back on the toxic indoctrination underway in their schools.

Keep opposing the propaganda being fed to our children & grandchildren!

No more socialism/communism taught in schools. If you all hate our country so much, leave no one is stopping you.

This is training your kids how to think, to fear, and to go along with whatever they are told to do.

Quit letting teachers and society train your kids. They are YOUR kids. Train them yourselves or someone else will.

Amanda you are right. Hard working Iowans need support but you and Sharon like to focus on the ones who don’t want to work. Instead you want to spend our money to make people who don’t want work lives easier.

Amanda is clueless. She talks about working families but has no idea. All they want to do is spend more money on their pet projects. Inflation is going up as a result gas prices are up 50 percent. Food prices rocketing. I just want to save more of the money that I earn and not ruin my children’s future on wasteful spending. She also talks about unemployment. If people are not working it is because the don’t want to. Everywhere you look businesses are hiring. Amanda just wants to spend your money and pad her fat cat coffers for her party who fund her.

Amanda supported two children with no child care assistance and no public support. You don’t know what you are talking about. She is an inspiration to all single mothers.

If Amanda supported two children with no child care assistance and and no public support, why can’t other single mothers? Why do they need food stamps and handouts? If Amanda could do it, they should be able to do it too.

Because she lived in a different time. And she had the tools to do so. Many today, and in her time, did not or do not. Your share of assisting people through taxes who need assistance can’t be much. And if it helps out 10 families, then more power to her. What is so wrong with supporting hard working Iowans?

If they were hard working Iowans, they would be getting a paycheck and not need the free money and government handouts the losers in this state are getting. The jobs are out there. If they wanted to work, they would.

Most Iowans do work. They just don’t earn enough to make ends meet. Quit being a jerk and realize that being poor isn’t a choice.

No, being poor isn’t a choice. But able bodied people who choose not to work knowing the govt. will welfare support them, they are what I am talking about. And if you ever go to the places that give out free food, or free meals, you would see that 95% of them have no physical or mental handicap that prevents them from taking advantage of the freebies offered to them. I have worked my whole life, never lived off govt, and never needed to. From the way you post, you sound like you may have been a welfare suck all your life and are trying to justify being a welfare loser. Just a feeling you give me. Nothing personal.

Never have lived off government assistance. I have taken unemployment insurance a couple of times when no jobs were available but neither was more than 4 months but the money helped put food on the table and paid bills. Paid taxes for over 60 years. You must be a psychic doctor because you can tell that people standing in a line have no mental or physical illnesses. You sound like an elitist right winger. Must have inherited your money and job from daddy.

Where did you find that at? I can’t find it anywhere.

your attitude

All I asked is where you found the information about her supporting two children with no child care assistance and no public support.

I can’t find it, and would like to read it for myself.

All I ask is to keep more of the money I earned. That would help me !!
JFK spinning in his grave at these communist democrats today.

” Connect every American to reliable broadband. ”
Their getting rid of Med**COM ? Must be if they are saying reliable.

Nice spin Mandi.

Hey Amanda, why don’t you call Pelosi and ask her for some of that $200 million she’s giving that park in SF.

poop patrol?

To remodel old barracks into high end apartments. It is an old base turned over to be used as a park, but it has to be self sustaining, or it reverts back to federal property and is to be sold off.

Remodeling the barracks allows them to rent them for a high price.

My question is, wouldn’t giving them the money for remodeling mean they weren’t self sufficient?

What would you suggest?
