Nora Springs city council to discuss future of its police department

Nora Springs City Hall

NORA SPRINGS – The Nora Springs city council tonight will discuss the future of its police department.

The Nora Springs city council meets Friday night, June 18 at 5:30. At this meeting, discussion is scheduled on a possible decision on the future of the Police Department. According to a former council member, Brian Hanft, “police chief Jessie Dugan has been offered another job in another community. He would like to stay in NS but the the offer elsewhere provides considerably more pay and benefits. I have reached out three of five city council members and Deb expressing my thoughts that it would be a mistake to lose an employee of more than 18 years who does a great job of keeping our town safe.”

The council also plans to review/approve a 28E Law Enforcement Agreement.

Other business includes setting a date and time of public hearing for the proposed plans, specs, form of contract and bid acceptance on the FY2021 Streets Improvement Project and discussion of City easement at the wastewater plant.
